The album is a reflection on the instability of borders, constantly expanding and withdrawing lines over the map of Europe. Borders as an extreme attempt to discriminate and rationalize, that turns into a source of chaos, dividing and containing cultural ruins on both sides. The album is also a travel diary focused on the relationship between people and the territory. The music I wrote and the field recordings I took during several travels around the continent present an unsolvable contrast between voice fragments (the words are undistinguishable) and a constantly mutating soundscape, in which they are plunged into.

Quotes from some album's reviews:

"Choral incorporation in otherwise instrumental music may be on the rise, as evidenced by recent releases from Battlestations, Hammock and now Giulio Aldinucci.  Choirs lend these releases the feel of something sacral and timeless.  Yet as the backdrops change, the mood does as well.  The other albums concentrated on beauty and consolation; Borders And Ruins comes across as a warning and potential requiem."

A CLOSER LISTEN (USA)

"Éternité du chaos"

TARTINE DE CONTREBASSE (F)

"A symphony of subliminal beauty forged as sacred sound."

TRAKMARX (UK)

PAYNOMINDTOUS (I)

"The essence of self-transcendence, I understand now, involves acknowledging the darkness within and then searching for the appropriate spiritual practice to decathect from it rather than simply push it aside. Borders and Ruins is yet another sonic avenue one can take to achieve the same results."

SURSUMCORDA (P)

MUSIC WON'T SAVE YOU (I)

"Giulio Aldinucci leaves no doubt about what this album is about: the opening track Exodus Mandala hits hard with an intensity that is a bit like a Penderecki choral work.

Borders, Ruins … the sonorities of current times?"

AMBIENTBLOG (NL)

SACRI LOOPS."

ROCKERILLA (I)

ARTNOIR (CH)

"An ambient LP of rare intensity."

NORMAN RECORDS (UK)

BLOW UP (I)

FREISTIL (A)

SUFFISSOCORE (I)

"It’s powerful stuff, with a real glacial heft, but at its core there’s a big, soft, warm, lovely hug."

DOGRANDO (UK)

THE NEW NOISE (I)

"“Ambient” with a capital “A”."

THE SOUND PROJECTOR (UK)
